The Locals Choice - Michael's Brasserie
(About 2 minutes walk from York Minster)
Michael's Brasserie is part of the Galtres Lodge Hotel, located on Low Petergate in York. The restaurant offers a clean feel, with 4 menu's to choose from. These include the Early Bird (available 5 - 7.30pm) where each dish is £9.65. The food is delicious, and the portions are the perfect size to leave room for dessert which definitely doesn't disappoint. A must visit for a treat in York.

Toto's - A small Pizzeria just outside the City Walls. The restaurant clearly advertises that it is completely non-smoking and this sets the tone for the comfortable atmosphere. The menu offers a wide range of pizza, pasta and traditional Italian dishes which are all great value. They also offer and Pizza or Pasta for £4.50 between 5-7pm.

The Kings Manor Refectory - Situated in the Archaeology Department of York University, the Kings Manor Refectory is open to the public offering lunches (12.00-1.30pm for hot food). Although the range is fairly limited, the staff are very friendly, and the prices are very reasonable. The refectory is set in the old Kings Manor, providing some stunning surroundings for your lunch.

Ye Olde Starre Inne - A small pub just off Stonegate in the city. The pub offers a traditional pub atmosphere and serves traditional pub food. The pub prides itself on offering 6 Ales, but also has a wide range of wine, spirits and soft drinks. Although nothing out of the ordinary, the Starre Inne is very good for a simple meal.

Petergate Fisheries- Although not the only place in the city for fish and chips, the Petergate Fisheries does offer a good range of the traditional Chip Shop dishes. In their restaurant you can sit and have your fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and a drink for £6.95, although space is very limited and not great if you are in a wheelchair or have a pram. The service can be slow at busy times and its location means that tourists are often around.
