Gotta Be Somebody cover

Nickelback - Gotta Be Somebody

I'm going to rock the boat with this review as Nickelback aren’t the favourite band of some of my fellow reviewers. This single, however, is powerful and very pleasing to the ear while being lyrically quite emotive. For once, Nickelback have produced a single that is pretty much top notch.

Human cover

The Killers - Human

Released on vinyl and digital formats, The Killers are taking a little risk on Human. The first single from their forthcoming album Day and Age is probably edging more towards glam rock than they have ever before. It has the bouncy synthesised sounds you expect on a Killers single, and what can only be described as interesting lyrics. “Are we human or are we dancer?” which makes little sense, but that should be expected from the band that wrote “I have soul but I am not a soldier”

Rain On Your Parade cover

Duffy - Rain On Your Parade

Rain On Your Parade is Duffy's fifth single from the Rockferry album. It has her powerful vocals written all over it and for such a petit person it is surprising how she has such vocal strength. If anything this is an even better single then Mercy, which is still (at time of writing) the highest selling of single of 2008.

What About Us cover

John Barrowman - What About Us

This man appears to be overflowing with talent, everything he touches he is fantastic at! (Not that I am at all jealous... well, maybe just a little bit) Listening to this I start to think of Ronan Keating because it is of a similar style, but Mr Barrowman is infinitely more talented!

Insomnia cover

Craig David - Insomnia

Craig David has taken a bashing from my fellow reviewer Darren on a few occasions, well I am going to buck the trend and defend Insomnia. The synthesised beats makes for an intro that will catch your ear immediately. I am not going to try and kid you by saying is going to become a classic, but it does lift its head above the normal and hum drum.

No Sunlight cover

Death Cab For Cutie - No Sunlight

You often hear that quality and not quantity is what counts, and you could definitely use that logic here. Don’t be fooled by the uptempo melody, this is pure Death Cab encapsulating the bleak reality most of us face when we see gloom descending in our life. Death Cab at their very best.

Love Will Find a Way cover

Delirious - Love Will Find a Way

Two a penny ‘indie’ bands are the staple diet of Britain’s music industry at the moment, add Delirious to that list. Truly uninspiring, nothing new or anything that could claim to be unique, but then again we wouldn’t want to shock the masses!

Love Love Love cover

James Blunt - Love Love Love

What is this rubbish? Seriously I can forgive him for Back to Bedlam as some of the songs will live with people forever. This may live with me forever also – in my worst nightmares! I have no more to say and the strength to say no more.

Gasoline cover

The Airborne Toxic Event - Gasoline

There is something about this single that drew me to it, not that I have always been drawn to things that are good for me! Gasoline restores my faith in my intuition once more, it is slightly spiky and delivered with vocals that are spat out, but not in the modern style, it owes more to a bygone time, a time when people decided what they liked rather than being told by music publications.

Butterfly's Wing cover

Mercury Rev - Butterfly's Wing

Another atmospheric joy by Mercury Rev, owing to the sound of Massive Attack but even more eerie, conjuring a vision of a dark dank environment, this is a song for your imagination. Those with a limited imagination are going to struggle identifying the depth of another exquisite piece of art.
