Shout cover

Black Tide - Shout

Oh dear. Ok, I know metal isn’t my all time favourite genre, but, the title tells you what this song is… someone thinking they’re cool by shouting down a mic. No idea what the lyrics are, if there are any! But I’m sure metal heads all round the country are loving this single.

Boyfriend cover

Alphabeat - Boyfriend

Right, the next Alphabeat single is this the fourth in four months! They just keep coming, we might hear the whole album by Christmas at this rate. Although I’m not actually moaning, on CD they are very good, however, I didn’t think they were anything special when they performed live a few weeks ago.
Anyway, Boyfriend is another very simply entitled track from these Danish europop artists, yet it is so catchy. It looks like Alphabeat fever may continue this month.

Mountains cover

Biffy Clyro - Mountains

The Scottish rockers are back with Mountains. It's a very pleasant single, but it may not rekindle the success that Living Is A Problem Because Everything Dies had for them. Perhaps it should, as it is lyrically so simple and any Joe Bloggs can sing along, your only problem is trying to get it out of your head.

Half In Love With Elizabeth cover

Mystery Jets - Half In Love With Elizabeth

Yet another upbeat single from the Jets, following the releases of Two Doors Down and Young Love. It just hasn’t got the same catchiness of the last two singles, which is a real shame. Still, it is a very respectable single, but unlike one of their lyrics, let's hope their bubble doesn’t burst.

Saturday Night cover

Sandi Thom - Saturday Night

Anyone remember wanting to be a punk rocker? Well she’s back, but wants to be on prime time instead, Saturday Night no less. Although the single still shows off her pretty and mellow vocals, with some da da da’s, it doesn’t have the same effect.

Pick Me Up cover

Emilia de Poret - Pick Me Up

Say It Right - Part II. I say this because Australian singer, Emilia de Poret's latest release sounds incredibly similar to the Nelly Furtado hit. Pick Me Up is an easy on the ears, catchy R'n'B/pop tune, sung with true emotion, something which is rare from this genre. If it could be heard by the masses, it would be loved. A forgotten classic in the making...

I Kissed A Girl cover

Katy Perry - I Kissed A Girl

Physically released on Friday, this artist and song needs no introduction. I Kissed A Girl is an electro-pop/rock tune which has caused a bit of (unnecessary) controversy. Instantly memorable and humorous, this is a daring and inventive song which I adore!

You Made Your Bed cover

Red Blooded Women - You Made Your Bed

Girl bands seem to be in abundance right now, and here's another one to add to the collection. Unfortunately, I can't see a long-lasting career on the horizon for this trio. For a start, if you want to make a big first impression, you should release your best song on every format under the sun. Bizarrely though, they are releasing their weakest song (and they do have many promising tunes) on a limited edition 7". You Made Your Bed is pleasant at best, but very forgettable. Sugababes shouldn't be scared of someone stealing their crown just yet...

Perfect Girl cover

Ultrasonics - Perfect Girl

Hooray! Another edgy electro-pop act. I have been waiting for a release from Ultrasonics for quite some time now, and it pleases my greatly to see the edgy 80's inspired Perfect Girl gaining a single release. I sincerely hope this group gets noticed by many, unfortunately, I cannot see it happening. A huge shame.

All About The Money cover

Vogue - All About The Money

Oh dear, I think the single cover says it all! Here we have the most awful girlband to emerge this year, and they are releasing a hideous cover of the once wonderful Meja song, All About The Money. From that introduction alone, you can probably tell I am not the biggest Vogue fan in the world, but if you like your cheesy dance, it could be right up your street!

Summertime cover

The Maybes? - Summertime

This is the 3rd or 4th The Maybes? single we have reviewed, I lost count and I should be treated with sympathy. This band is currently more popular than shellsuits were in the early 90’s and we all remember them fondly don’t we? I do this single a slight injustice; it lifts its head above the parfait of dross that they have previously released; although that may not be a glowing recommendation.

Girls World cover

The Scratch - Girls World

I have a bit of soft spot for The Scratch, some would say I have a big soft spot and it lay’s between my ears! But anyone that has picked up a record by Small Faces may join my ever increasing band of misguided souls that believe going backwards is the way forward!
