What I Want cover

Bob Sinclar - What I Want

Bob Sinclar has been getting on my wick for a couple of years now, with his mixture of dance and sugar coated pop. It serves no purpose at all; besides for teeny boppers to play around bus stops to keep people with taste away.

Because The Night cover

Cascada - Because The Night

Note to self: Constructive criticism.

It’s no use; Cascada and her poor karaoke versions of random pop songs have been going on too long! Go into any town centre pub on a Friday night and you hear will the same thing as this; but probably done better.

 Walking Backwards cover

Futureheads - Walking Backwards

The third single to be released from This Is Not the World, another solid release from them, but rather than Walking Backwards they appear to be standing on the spot and not going anywhere. It will slip nicely onto the Radio 1 playlist, probably.

New Franchise cover

Grammatics - New Franchise

I can give you 2 reasons to get this single; firstly it is available as an FREE download from the official site (CLICK THE PICTURE)! (That grabbed your attention, didn’t it?). The second reason is far more important, this is an almost haunting ballad; that is atmospheric and most shockingly interesting!

Spotlight cover

Jennifer Hudson - Spotlight

Jennifer Hudson is an overnight global success story so whatever I say is a little pointless, it won’t be changing opinions. Another run of the mill R ‘n’ B song; pleasant enough but she is hardly Diana Ross. I prepare for the expected lynching.

Heartbeat cover

Late of the Pier - Heartbeat

Late of the Pier are very astute; they have incorporated the best 80’s synth had to offer and dothed their hat to the current day rivals. The result is an easy to listen to, interesting piece of pop. It is more than worth adding to your collection.

5 Years Time cover

Noah and the Whale - 5 Years Time

“Wherever you go there will be love, love, love”; excuse me I didn’t realise you were reading. Noah and the Whale, I salute you! They have succeeded where so many fail, I am whistling and skipping down the street with my heart full of glee. I shall gave this top marks because it is fun, fun, fun.

It’s Not About You cover

Scouting For Girls - It’s Not About You

I surrender; don’t shoot me my arms are raised and I am unarmed. As I have said on too many occasions Scouting For Girls are the most saccharine laden band in the country; but it is time for me to embrace the cheese; something that makes others smile can’t be all bad.

Impossible cover

Shout Out Louds - Impossible

This Swedish group have never really made an impression here, but whilst listening to Impossible I was wondering just why? A delicately constructed soft rock pop record with feeling and emotions weaved into its lyrics. The only complaint is at nearly 7 minutes, it is almost as long as the Humber Bridge.

Empty Eyes / But I’ll Be Waiting cover

History of Guns - Empty Eyes / But I’ll Be Waiting

I listened and then listened again, I was trying to determine if this was progress or imitation; Joy Division and Sex Pistols were screaming out at me as I heard this, no bad thing at all; indeed I positively encourage it. After several listens I was in no doubt that History of Guns have enough rawness about them to make a difference, post punk done effectively; a novelty.
