The Jam

The Jam image

The Jam formed in Woking in 1972, they only released albums for 5 years between 77 and 82 but made a major impact on the British music scene. They consisted of Paul Weller, Bruce Foxton and Rick Buckler. The 3 of them together moulded a generation with their Mod / new wave sound.

They wrote songs that reflected on the situations of the time; Weller was a middle class young man fighting his own political war through music. Song like Eton Rifles were wrote about real events of the time, reflecting on the real divides in Britain’s culture. They were renowned for they way Weller almost spat the lyrics out and delivered them with as much venom as possible, they built their reputation on being the voice of youth.

They recorded 6 albums in just 5 years, each one of them containing at least one song that is still known today. Alot of their songs are covered by current bands at live gigs. In 1982 they split as Weller went on to form The Style Council, but that isn't the end for The Jam. 30 years after their original signing Foxton and Buckler have come together again performing as From The Jam, they are currently touring the UK and a new album is due next year.
