  Sunflies - Coping Strategies

Coping Strategies cover

I know far too many teenagers, well to be more precise I know of the musical tastes of far too many teenagers and most of what they pump out of their generic MP3 players makes me want to weep uncontrollably, and I shall now present Sunflies début EP to you all.

I hear Fall Out Boy and I want to cry, I hear My Chemical Romance and I want to hide away in a dark room and on my first listen I thought that was exactly what had been given to me – my worst nightmare. However that would be rather harsh, once you get through the muddy swamp of Sticks and Stones which is all faux emotions and eyeliner things start to pick up.

Maybe what they have attempted to do here is appeal to everyone, that isn’t an easy feat to achieve! Once High Times kicked in I was a little bewildered but pleasantly surprised, this is a song that can hold its own with some of the bigger names out there, and grown up artists at that! I am talking of the likes of Muse but with a slight Gothic twist. The final track Too Late for Hate lifts its guitars straight from Matt Bellamy and co but its lyrical content from Gerard Way; if you aren’t confused you are doing better than me!

Give it a try by all means, it will pass on 10 minutes if nothing else but don’t be expecting something that is going to alter your life. Sunflies could have a promising future if only they knew which direction they wanted to take.

Rating 6/10 – I will find another way to cope.
