Ross Copperman - Welcome To Reality
This is the debut album from Ross Copperman who hopes that his voice will make a large impression. His album shows some promise but once you’ve heard a bit of it you’ve heard it all unfortunately.
Found You is a pleasant track with some decent lyrics and descriptions of the situation; his high pitched vocals does allow the chorus to be pleasant to one’s ears. Guilty Pleasure is a track similar to that of the The Maps crossed with KT Tunstall, unfortunately it sounds all over the place and a really awful attempt at KT’s Other Side Of The World - Yawn. As I Choke, was a song I was looking forward to from the title and it came close to my expectations. It has a good beat that makes the song a little more interesting, his vocals and lyrics are good on this track also and it is good to listen too if you feel that someone has betrayed you or watched as you choke on yourself.
I Get By has a good beat to it to begin with however I think the chorus would be good if only it was so tinny and overrode his voice. Believe is a slower track and reasonably good to listen to if you like violin playing at the beginning, but they aren't on Bond. The lyrics are nice and the song works well with his vocals shining out over a slow backing music. I Don't Wanna Let You Go is good in places; the chorus is the highlight with lyrics.
Get Away is slightly more interesting. Copperman's vocals are allowed to be over the backing music which is what really helps him but the chorus sounds really out of context, he is trying to fit a lot into a small space with a slow beat, making it sound almost annoying and rushed. They'll Never Know is a pleasant track but the piano at the beginning may be the highlight as again its yawn worthy. His single is the best track on the album but it really casts the overall sound he'll give from this album. As She Wrote is a decent track with a good video and worth a listen to at the least.
Overall the album is rather bland and samey. Ross has clearly been given a strict comfort zone to try and highlight his vocals, in places it works to great effect, but in others places it sounds out of place. His style is similar to KT Tunstall.
A Realistic Rating : 5/10
