Radiohead - OK Computer
The best album in the world ?
You will either love this album or think its a fuss about nothing, however if you truly love music you must listen to this at least once in you life & you can make up your own mind.
The first track is Airbag, with it's subtle backing music and Thom Yorke's haunting vocals its not like listening to music it's more of a dream than anything. Paranoid Android is a much softer track with a mystical feel to it. At over six minutes you may think it's a bit long for a track however it will hold you right until the end. Subterranean Homesick Alien is quite a dark sounding track with spooky sounds from the accompanying musicians adding to the surreal feel of the lyrics. A sad and sombre mood takes you over with Exit Music building up to a climax towards the end. This is a feeling only Radiohead can create.
Let Down is more of a traditional style that you would expect from any band, however not as polished as this though. Karma Police is probably the best known of Radiohead's tracks & that is no surprise as the writing, backing music, lyrics, vocals & the performance are simply stunning (a goose bump moment) WOW!
Fitter Happier is the strangest sounding on the album, and it's not Professor Stephen Hawking singing as he did on Pink Floyd's - Keep Talking but it is very similar and uses the same technology to speak the vocals. Electioneering is the most natural sounding with very little in the way of electronics and just a few guitars and a set of drums shows that they can do what would be considered normal sounding music.
Climbing Up The Walls is a very un-nerving and un-natural sounding if you heard it coming towards you, when you were in the dark and alone you would want to try to escape from it and No Surprises is the most melody driven track on the album and probably the most emotional also. Sometimes it makes you ask "can Radiohead do a happy tune"? Lucky is the most happy sounding track you will hear from the band, followed by Tourist, the final track on the album that seems to add closure to the journey that this album takes you on.
Every time you listen to this album, you will be surprised to find something new you haven't noticed before. In all a outstanding contribution to the world of music, it's not a genre defining album, because it doesn't really conform to any particular style, it's out there on it's own.
Rating ? - Thom Yorke has never conformed so who are we to make him do it now.
