Radiohead - In Rainbows
A release of a new Radiohead album is always a eagerly anticipated event & even with the twist of "pay what you want for it" people were wondering what new experiences Radiohead would have in-store for the listeners ears.
Like all the Radiohead music before the more you listen the more you will hear things you never heard before. Their music simply pulls you into experience not just music but a place where everything is in a state of flux every track tells a story, you just need to work out what the story is.
Every track is different, from the haunting strings of Faust Arp, the piano driven Videotape & the guitar driven Jigsaw Falling into Place but they all contain the little musical moments that send you senses into a frenzy & leave you thinking 'did I just hear that' and 'what was that'? It's like the music keeps evolving the more you listen to it.
Though the best track on the album Reckoner which is sung by Thom York completely in falsetto, with sublime backing harmonies, flowing melodies & soaring strings. It's just stunning.
Even Nude and 15 Step that sound like you expect from Radiohead, are simply so well written, played & are executed to perfection.
The album is more approachable than Amnesiac & Kid A, more in the style of OK Computer but less somber & dark. It is just a more rounded music experience to listen to, is it better than OK Computer ? That is a tough question to answer only time will tell.
