Madonna - Madonna: The First Album
Madonna: The First Album, as the name suggests, was the first release from the international popstar we know as Madonna!
Lucky Star is the first track on the album and also one of the strongest. With catchy music & a free-spirited feel, this track would set the tone for years to come. Borderline carries on the catchy vibe, with a slightly softer sound & honest lyrics. Burning Up has a more hard-dance edge with a heavy bass line that pulls you to the dance-floor.
I Know It has a sharp sound & backing that is quite irritating. This doesn't sound as polished as her other tracks, which is a shame.
Holiday is one of a few Madonna songs that is simply on another level; simple meaningful lyrics, warm backing music & well put together, stunning! Everybody was Madonnas first commercially available single & you can hear the seeds of something very special coming through, a strong voice that puts everything in to the singing together with a nice funky sound.
To round up, The First Album is simply a stunning debut. There are a few poor tracks that sound very dated, however it also contains some great ones that have more than stood the test of time. This album would turn pop music in a new direction & never let it look back.
7/10
